I've always loved working as an educator. Then, I discovered research and the power of combining the two areas. Best of all, I discovered ways to ensure that research insights hold the keys to powerful professional learning and strengthening practice. I delight in journeying with educators to tackle an area of need and observing their growth in confidence, self-efficacy and collective efficacy as we collaborate to problem solve (as I never claim to have all the answers!), trial interventions and reflect on our learnings. Best of all is the joy of seeing learners find rich meaning in their learning and build deep understandings that can transform the way they choose to live in the world forever. One school I worked with showed me their data, which revealed a growth of 20% higher student engagement and learning valuing. Now you know why I love combining the roles of educator and researcher!I've also discovered the importance of story in learning. I know how to take biblical texts and align them with literacy, to uncover the power of story, imagination and the challenge of the text. I know how to organise and lead pilgrimages that enable learners to get in touch with their own story and a greater story of place, people and perspectives. I also know how to view data as a story unfolding, and I know how to keep searching and digging until I reach the real issues in the story (which is kind of important if one wants to make good decisions from the data!). And I know that every learner brings their own story and continues 'writing' their own living story, every day. I consider it a privilege to lead learning in ways that invite people to find meaning in the world and purpose in life.
