As an Online Learning Advisor I am responsible for facilitating student learning, providing academic support, and delivering exceptional student experiences for units in QUTs Graduate Certificate in Education (Innovative Learning Design), including Authentic Learning & Assessment, and Future Trends in Learning Design. I also manage a range of assessment tasks, including moderation, marking, and feedback to ensure students achieve their goals. My success in this work was recognised in May 2024 when I was awarded a QUT Teaching Excellence Award.As Unit Chair, in addition to these responsibilities, I lead and provide mentorship to other Online Learning Advisors, promote teaching innovation and excellence, manage administrative processes, and respond to complex student enquiries.

After leaving Deakin University in late 2022, I took a short break before joining the Premium Studio team at Obvious Choice. In this role, I lead learning design and development work for multiple state and national impact projects for government organisations, including disaster resilience programs, induction, onboarding, compliance, and technology training. In addition to this work, I also head an internal innovation project focused on developing robust, repeatable design methodologies for adaptive, gamified, and narrative-based learning approaches, including opportunities for future-focused AI integrations.

I transferred from the portfolio of the DVCA to the division of People & Culture at Deakin in May 2022 with the objective of applying best-practice digital, adult learning, and UX principles to the transformation of the University’s approach to induction, onboarding, compliance, professional development, and academic promotion for staff.During this time, I managed the existing staff LMS and oversaw recommendations for the re-design of the University’s portfolio of online compliance and competency courses. This culminated in a highly collaborative roadmap for change centred around the introduction of a single, more engaging and participatory learning ecosystem (encompassing both LMS/CMS platforms and courses) for staff, the recommendations of which were accepted for a trial commencing in the first quarter of 2023 as part of the University’s ambitious Streamline project for research and teaching academics.

In 2016 I was approached by Deakin University to form part of the foundation Degrees@Futurelearn team and provide specialised learning design, digital storytelling, and creative writing/editing expertise for the development and delivery of Deakin's pioneering massive open online course (MOOC) and international full postgraduate degree offering via FutureLearn.At this time, the FutureLearn project was a critical component of Deakin University's digital learning strategy and a key function of my role was to ensure the University's objectives were met by working closely with faculty, academic, and professional staff to apply best-practice, human-centred learning design approaches to a range of discipline-specific, free open course, and full credit-bearing online postgraduate units and courses.Following my initial engagement with this project, I went on to join Deakin's Global Studio team and provide digital learning expertise across a wide range of other innovative online learning models, including AQF-aligned professional practice, discipline-specific, and 'stackable learning' microcredentials. I also led the design and development of online postgraduate student orientation courses, staff training modules, and other supporting resources. During this time, I had the opportunity to write and present multiple papers, reports, and conference presentations, and was delighted to have my digital learning design and practice contributions recognised through two Deakin Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence (2018 - Student experience; 2021 - Teaching and Learning).

While finalising my PhD dissertation, I worked on a number of different freelance projects for Coles, Australia Post, NAB, Myer, and ME Bank on behalf of digital learning vendors, including DeakinCo, Kineo Pacific, and BSI Learning.The varied outputs of this work included client/subject-matter expert engagement, learning design proposals, storyboard writing, creative/visual design direction, and project management.My work on the delightful ME Bank project for DeakinCo led to an invitation to join the Deakin University FutureLearn project.

I was initially contracted by Learning Seat in 2012 to design, develop, and write a series of online graphic narratives in partnership with law firm Landers&Rogers that would represent a radical shift in the direction of the organisation's flagship suite of off-the-shelf and white-label compliance courses.Following the success of this project that ultimately became known as 'The SAFE Files'​ and its offshoot, 'Law at Work', I was retained by Learning Seat on a permanent basis to evolve their custom course development offering.This included a partial secondment to the marketing team and opportunity to produce monthly newsletters, weekly blogs, and publish an inaugural digital learning white paper.

I was first engaged as a Learning Designer based on my creative writing skills and ability to apply these to a range of innovative online, face-to-face, and blended learning solutions for a wide portfolio of clients, including major banks, FMCG, media, and insurance brands.This involved working closely with other learning designers, and a multidisciplinary team of internal animators, illustrators, digital designers, framework developers, and project managers. From time to time, this also included collaboration with external videographers, sound engineers, actors, and voice-over-artists.My experience in this role – and with this team – helped establish the creative, learner-centric approaches to adult online education that have gone on to become a hallmark of my professional learning design practice.
