Associate Director For Curriculum / Instruction / Assessment And Human Resources
I worked for two years alongside a local Chinese Director to develop an International Center High School that focuses on preparing students for successful transitions into colleges in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia as well as other universities outside of China. We designed standards and purchased new curriculum to integrate the USA Common Core English Language Arts and European Common Framework standards, while at the same time expanding both Advanced Placement and Cambridge A-Level course offerings. We also accomplished major goals in developing a standardized and rigorous high school transcript process during my tenure. It was a wonder opportunity to see education from a different perspective than my US training had allowed. Honored with the Quencheng Friendship award for service to Jinan City and its residents.
Superintendent
As Interim Superintendent I managed the district through a difficult transition year. I was also the principal of the elementary school of 320 students that was created in 4 weeks after a difficult process in June of 2012 closed one school. I successfully managed an anticipated budget deficit of $600,000 through cuts and non-expenditures into an ending deficit balance of $250,000. I worked with legal counsel and the Board in closing out three lawsuits. We did a great deal of saving and healing in my 11 months!
Superintendent
As the Superintendent of the Jewell School District I worked closely with the staff and the community to redesign the instructional program including the addition of advanced placement courses at the High School and multi-age classes at the K-8 school. In our professional learning communities we focused on Wiggins and McTeigh Understanding by Design to differentiate our instructional units for powerful learning. I also worked closely with the Board to reduce reserve fund spending and bring budget expenditures in line with revenue. I also served as the district's Special Education Director.
Superintendent
As the lead administrator of the Long Creek School District I worked closely with the staff and community to redesign the instructional program by developing improved offerings in High school (advanced math and foreign languages) and bringing in grants to offer critical music education classes at the K-8 school.
Principal -- Pringle Elementary
Oregon School of Excellence three of the seven years during my leadership based on the Oregon Report card ranking process. A 640 student K-5 school that I lead as the only administrator with one school counselor. We were very progressive using and approach to meeting all students needs. Quite possibly,in a informal manner, we were the first response to intervention school in the Salem-Keizer district.
Principal -- Lynhaven Elementary & Asst. Principal Rolling Hills Ms
National Blue Ribbon School Candidate Spring 2000. Increased student achievement scores by 12% in a single year based on the California STAR achievement scale. We accomplished improved instructional coverage by using Heidi Hayes-Jacobs curriculum mapping process in grades 3-5 in the areas of social science reading and math. Before taking over Lynhaven I worked as the Assistant Principal at Rolling Hills MS also a National Blue Ribbon school of 1,100 students in the Campbell Union Elementary District.
Assistant Principal And Classroom Teacher
I started as teacher in Dos Palos at Bryant Middle School, at the end of my second year became the assistant principal of the rural 550 student school. It was a great opportunity to learn under some very intelligent teachers and leaders. My desire to seek a doctorate degree lead me to move to a larger community and work as an administrator for the Campbell Union Elementary School district.
