I lead a quiet and well-ordered life of the mind. For the past 30 years or so, I’ve had the privilege of teaching, learning, and working at a large state university, seeking after the good, the true, and the beautiful. After graduating from Roy High School, I served as a Navy Corpsman with the 1st Marine Division at the end of the Vietnam War. I went to college on the Vietnam GI Bill, earning a BS degree in Business from Weber State (1976-79) and an MBA from Utah State University (1979-80). I then worked as a compensation and labor relations executive, mostly for large, unionized coal mining, electric utility, and aerospace companies (1980-90). I left industry in 1990 to teach and work full time in the business school at Weber State. I went to night school to earn a PhD from the University of Utah. I have served as the Executive Director/Dean of the WSU Davis Campus since 1999 and as Vice Provost and Dean of Continuing Education since 2008. After the terrorist attacks of 9-11, I returned to serve as the KVC for 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines (2003-06). Two my boys are decorated Marine Corps combat veterans, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan respectively. My current interests include public and higher education policy, leadership, and entrepreneurship. I've been married to Valerie Jean Davis for 42 years. We are the parents of seven adult children and have 15 grandchildren (so far).
