About Lois Campbell
STEM - Since her early employment on the Navajo Indian Reservation, Dr. Campbell has consistently worked for ways to encourage youth (Elementary-College) to be engaged in the areas traditionally associated with STEM. She had directed students in cognitive-focused inquiry instruction, environmental education, and laboratory techniques. Her greatest emphasis has been on student research endeavors. To that end, she has written multiple grants that have allowed students to participate in projects that involve robotics, video-microscopy, gel electrophoresis, microbiology, cellular processes, and environmental exploration. Further, she has worked with students to direct their research endeavors for the INTEL Regional Science Fair Competition at Purdue University, the Indiana State Science Fair Competition, and the International Science Fair Competition sponsored by INTEL. She has worked with students in her local classroom/laboratory as well as, has served as an instructor for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Biology. Her focus in ELA has beenLiteracy Education – Dr. Campbell has been recognized as a Highly Qualified Teacher for Reading/Language Arts in the State of Indiana. She has worked to actively continue her education of literacy and the Common Core through training in Four-Block Method, Nancie Atwell’s Reading/Writing in the Middle, Step Up to Writing, and Daily 5 for Literacy and Café. As an Elementary and Middle School teacher, Dr. Campbell has been active in promoting literacy education through classroom instruction, library programs, family literacy nights, Read Across America, and participation in the Guinness Book of Records Great Reading Event featuring a simultaneous reading of Charlotte’s Web. She has worked to bring nationally acclaimed authors to schools (Jerry Pinkney and Patricia Polacco) She is a member of the American Library Association, The National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association.
