About Associate Professor Carmen Parter

I am an impactful leader with over 30-years+ experience working with community and in governments while centring Indigenous Knowledges and Indigenous Cultures into the work I have done. I am also a strong, powerful, humble, playful and insightful Murri woman, who is grounded in my Indigenous sovereignty and Indigenous Cultures of ways of being, knowing and doing. My lived experiences including family stories of oppression, injustices and prejudices has given me the determination to make a difference for future generations, especially my grandchildren, so that they will not be subjected to the same brutal realities of social inequalities, discrimination and racial violence that I and others have endured. I enjoy working with those who are willing to listen and learn with an open heart and mind, as I take them on a journey of discovery to make the unknown known. I thrive on having a challenge as I learn while creating innovative system change solutions to wicked problems together.

I am a systems change practitioner, researcher and scholar and have applied Indigenous systems thinking concepts for over two decades. I work with organisations and individuals to help tackle those hard to deal with issues such as institutional racism and systemic structural barriers that make workplaces and services culturally unsafe. These deep seated barriers also prevent the full realisation of Indigenous people's Knowledges and Cultures being integrated into programs, services and practices. Drawing from thousands of years of ancestral knowledges, I apply systems change framework that incorporates an Indigneous worldview and methodology.
