What I do:I am an Independent Research Scholar at the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease, a division of the National Institutes of Health. Here, I lead a research team studying the bacterial causative agent of Q fever, Coxiella burnetii. I am particularly interested in the interface between the pathogen (C. burnetii) and the host (humans or the animals we use to model them). My ultimate research goal is to utilize my unique expertise to understand infectious mechanisms and components of protective immunity in order to develop a therapeutics and preventatives to better human health. I am passionate about STEM outreach and sharing the wonder of science with everyone. I actively mentor aspiring scientists seeking to begin a career in research and enjoy having the opportunity to train mentees in the laboratory.
