Dr. Colin A. Ferreira is currently a dual credit Mathematics professor and Advanced Placement/Gifted Students Manager at a high school in Texas, cofounder and CEO, philanthropist, author of five educational textbooks: Facilitating Advanced and Accelerative Academics Using the FETL Model (July 26, 2022), Span-Math Workbook: Teaching Spanish Through Mathematics: ¡Español Matemáticas es igual a Span-Math! (December 21, 2021), Diving Deeper into Data Analysis: Driving K-12 Leadership and Instruction (March 23, 2021), 21st Century Pedagogical Practices in K-12 Education (July 16, 2019) and Junior High Mathematics: A Simplified Approach (July 22, 2009). Dr. Ferreira has a history of achieving academic excellence in state assessments and developing innovative Mathematics programs. In the summer of 2022, he developed the FETL Model, an innovative approach to lesson planning and lesson delivery that brings content to life and can be used in all content areas and grade levels (K-16), using his expertise, international teaching experience, and extensive scholarly research. In addition, through the non-profit educational organization he founded, the Bartica Research Institute for Educational Empowerment (BRIEE), he has pioneered the national Span-Math program in 2020, a revolutionary educational program that provides synchronous instruction in a blended Spanish and Mathematics model via Zoom to grades 7-9 students in all ten regions of Guyana. From October 10, 2020, and throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, March 26, 2022, students have received 200 plus hours of highly engaging synchronous instruction. To inspire future Mathematicians and Linguists, he established the historic National Span-Math Competition where students from across the country competed in an academic decathlon.Further, in November 2016, he developed and implemented the Mathematics Enhancement Intervention Program (MEIP) in a public middle school that significantly improved Mathematics scores in the North Carolina Common Core Grade 8 state assessments: 97% and 90% pass rates at the 2017 and 2016 respectively in the North Carolina Algebra 1/Math 1 8th Grade End of Course Common Core state assessment (Tier 1 Middle School) for gifted students. In September 2022, Dr. Ferreira earned the Distinguished Teacher designation from his school district and Texas Education Authority 3rd highest teaching distinction, “Recognized” after a robust review of his teaching effectiveness and contributions under three domains: Leadership, Contributions to the Profession, and Lifelong Learning.
