I have served the mission of Catholic education for forty years as a teacher, principal, superintendent, director, accreditation lead evaluator, and author. From 2010-2022, I served as Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Evansville, Indiana. Prior to this position, I served for thirteen years as principal of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School in the Diocese of Owensboro, Kentucky. Today, I serve as the Director of the Institute for the Transformation of Catholic Education from The Catholic University of America. I also serve as a research assistant professor in the Department of Education at the University. I was the founding chairman of the Indiana Catholic Schools Consortium and served as President of the Board of Directors for the Indiana Non-Public Education Association. My published research and passion is about engaging Catholic educators to promote and enhance authentic Catholic identity and school improvement. My first book, Communion and Community: 46 Ways to Engage Catholic School Faculty and Staff During the School Year, was published in 2023.I am married to Jill Mattingly Hagan and we have two children, Maxx and Maggie; a daughter-in-law, Lauren; and three grandchildren, Lily, John, and Thomas.
