About Dave Carter

Dr Dave Carter has sustained a career as a music producer, engineer, researcher and educator across three continents. He has organised snow parties on the banks of the Mekong, toured Australia as a bass player in a DIY soul band and failed at running a record label at least once. As a researcher, Dave’s work is focussed on explaining the value of music and other creative sectors in terms treasury and artists can agree on. Over the last decade this work has been used to influence policy and funding decision making at all levels of government in Australia. After relocating to Aotearoa, New Zealand Dave led a major funded project supporting live music venues in Aotearoa, New Zealand through the CoVID pandemic while incentivising them to diversify their programming to foster greater inclusion of women, gender diverse, Māori and Pacific performers. Dave currently holds the position of Associate Professor, Music Industries at Massey University in Wellington. Specialties: Music; Audio Recording Production; Music 2.0; Experimental and Electronic Music; Research; Online Marketing and Distribution
