Dr. David F. Cuccia, D.C., graduated New York Chiropractic College with Honors, in 1982. In 1983, he was challenged by a patient whose back condition had not improved with traction, medical pain management, or physical therapy, over a four-year period. Despite his best efforts, utilizing extensive conventional treatment, no improvement was seen. In a last effort to help this patient, he manually placed her in extension, simultaneously with vertical gravity positioning. He observed an immediate reduction in both pain and antalgia, and a new therapeutic protocol was born. After several additional treatments, for the first time, the patient was pain-free without sciatica or antalgia. Continued clinical success utilizing this manual protocol created a need to produce a device capable of duplicating the original manually applied procedure, and thus, the first ExtenTrac was built that same year.
