It is a privilege to be a Colorectal and General surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Manitoba Max Rady College of Medicine. Having completed medical school at the University of Manitoba in 2000, I pursued a General Surgery residency at the University of Alberta in 2005. In 2006, I then completed my surgical training as a Fellow in Colon and Rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. I then returned to Winnipeg in 2006 as a specialist in Colon and Rectal Surgery and as a Malignant Disease Specialist with CancerCare Manitoba. It was an honour to serve as both the Site Medical Director of Surgery and the Section Lead of General Surgery at the Victoria Hospital from 2008 to 2018, as well as interim Chief Medical Officer at the Victoria Hospital in 2018. As the Manitoba surgical representative to the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) Committee for Pan Canadian Standards for Rectal Cancer Surgery, I helped to shape the modern practice of rectal cancer surgery and care here in Canada. It has been with pride that I have served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, BB Camp Kenora, as well as advisory boards for a variety of organizations.As an active faculty member of the University of Manitoba Max Rady College of Medicine Medical School, General Surgery Residency Program, and Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Program I am proud to help to train future Canadian physicians and surgeons. I have a strong interest in surgical innovation and quality care delivery and have published dozens of peer reviewed research papers on these topics As a national pioneer of Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery I have taught courses locally and nationally in laparoscopic colorectal cancer and TEM surgery. Among my career highlights has been my students, trainees, and colleagues putting forth my name for nomination to numerous mentorship, clinical teaching, and professionalism awards, achieving the Award for Teaching Excellence by the General Surgery residents in 2008, and the Award for Patient Advocacy by the Manitoba Medical Students' Association in 2017.
