This job has seen me seconded from my home unit to integrate with an established Cyber Intelligence Security Operations Centre (CyISOC) as a detection engineer. During this time I have:• Developed over 100 bespoke detection rules for enterprise solutions mapped to the MITRE ATT&CK framework.• Facilitated the migration of a similar amount of rules from one query language to another for enhanced cyber security.• Conducted Digital Forensics investigations to determine root cause of compromise and user error cases.• Acted as a point of escalation for junior analysts.• Provided technical insight during advisory board meetings with system owners/stakeholders to improve security postures and awareness.

As a Cyber Security Analyst within the British Army Cyber Protection Teams I have continuously and dramatically improved my knowledge and technical ability within the realm of Defensive Cyber Security. In this time I have:• Deployed on defensive cyber exercises alongside multi-national partners.• Delivered in-house training on the subjects of detection engineering and threat hunting as well as the overall effective use of SIEM tools.• Completed the GFACT, GSEC, GSOC and GCIH exams with an average score of >95%.• Competed in several capture-the-flag style tournaments including receiving the SANS course coins for SEC450 and SEC504, winning a SANS NetWars competition and representing the British Army CPT in the SANS International Inter-Services Cup 2024.

During this time I was deployed as the technical lead of a 4-person team delivering data and voice communications capabilities across multiple classifications for all British personnel within this area of operations. As an Information Services Engineer within my dedicated unit, I deployed on multiple exercises building and maintaining services within a NATO HQ element. In this time I :• Conducted regular equipment maintenance and accountancy checks• Maintained high availability of systems whilst deployed• Provided service desk facilities for multi-national partners, handling regular fault reports and requests for change (RFC) all processed following ITIL processes/recommendations• Regularly performed information security checks and accountancy checks of cryptographic material• Provided training for junior soldiers deemed 'trade-deficient' in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic

This time period accounts for my time starting at Phase 1 training as a new recruit until the end of my Phase 2 trade training as a Communications Systems Engineer before arriving at my first working unit in September 2020.
