Received the Nancy Susan Reynolds award for personal service, a $25,000 prize by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation; Class IV Graduate of the Rural Economic Development Institute, NC Rural Economic Development Center; named Tar Heel of the Week by the News and Observer,1994. My community recognized me with a "Bell Drive" street in New Bern, NC.I taught middle/ high school; and was a middle school counselor. Additionally, Dr. Bell was managing director for a mentally ill, at-risk youth residential treatment facility; lived in a group home for at-risk, delinquent, adjudicated youth as a teaching parent. Dr. Bell was a professional parent for an adjudicated youth in my home. In addition, Dr. Bell worked in a medium custody prison, and taught assertiveness training to inmates.
