About Evelyn Campbell, Ph.D.

As a Program Manager at The University of Chicago’s Data Science Institute, I oversee and implement community-facing educational outreach initiatives. This includes programming for high school students, undergraduate students, and non-profit organizations that span several topic areas such as technical data science skills, career exploration, and data governance and stewardship. Additionally, I have developed curricular content and assessments for introductory data science and programming courses. I have also mentored data science students participating in experiential learning through research projects and course practicum to provide deliverables for corporate, civic, academic, and industrial partners.I hold a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Chicago, where I studied host-microbe interactions and their contribution to disease and health. I am passionate about providing educational opportunities to groups that are underrepresented in academia, and I participate in numerous initiatives to mentor and support these students. By building community, I hope to help others actualize their interests and talents into a fulfilling career path that they may have not considered before.
