I work with clients who want to move their digital messaging communications environment into the cloud from an on premises base. This transformation -- much hyped as it is in the press -- is not always an easy one. For example -- mail files need to be moved, instant messaging communities are redefined, security is re-evaluated, and there are a host of legal and compliance oriented issues that must be addressed. In a return to my technical roots, I work with some of IBM's largest clients guiding them through this cloud transformation process -- methodically and and with a strong emphasis on repeatable process.

Living in beautiful Prague, I managed a team of 20+ engineers in eastern Europe covering a huge swath of territory from Budapest to Moscow to Istanbul. Together, we provided all technical support for our clients interested in solving business problems through leading edge collaboration technology such as digital portals, rich messaging, intelligent forms, and Internet based telephony. The journey was challenging, tiring, exhilarating, and sometime frustrating -- but an incredible professional experience. From a results perspective, we enjoyed high engineer profit contribution, excellent software deployment results and, most importantly, the respect of our clients who appreciated a constant focus on quality, methodology, and problem resolution.

After many years working as a subject matter expert, customer advocate, seller, and team leader, I moved into an IBM management position. In this role, I managed a highly diverse team of experts covering everything from embedded Java for devices and automobiles to traditional Domino applications to highly intelligent electronic forms creation. We also introduced and guided IBM Connections into the market as clients started to realize the power of social media technologies within the context of an enterprise experience.My team focused on delivering high impact solutions for client business problems with a particular emphasis on making sure these solutions returned verifiable ROI to the client. From a revenue perspective, we over-achieved objectives on a yearly basis and were the 'go to' team for field engineers and sales folks seeking to provide optimal solution for customer business problems.

While commuting to Asia Pacific countries on a monthly basis, I led a team of 15 mobility engineers based across all countries from Japan to New Zealand. The early 2000s were an interesting time to be working on mobile applications. Internet connectivity wasn't pervasive; devices (not yet smartphones) were heavy, expensive, and resource constrained; and technology to render full web content onto devices wasn't mature. Nonetheless, my team and I delivered some interesting projects with high customer satisfaction. At a railway company we wrote a Java application with local database for handheld devices that train ushers used to upgrade and register passenger tickets. At a large insurance company salespeople were outfitted with devices that they could use while selling insurance policies -- all data was synched to back-end systems at the end of the day. While these mobile applications are mostly common-place a decade later, designing and implementing them at the start of the millennium was challenging on multiple fronts -- technical, cultural, and providing a suitable ROI.
