Using SolidWorks to design and generate engineering drawings for manufacturing dies, tooling, and machine components; then working with both internal and external fabricators and machinists to have parts built and assembled. Used SolidWorks to design new machine components that allowed for a modular setup, the new design improved change over time by 60% and throughput by 50% for an estimated type 2 savings of $20,000 per year. Provided machinists and fabricators with engineering drawings, and worked closely with them to get feedback on the design and make changes as the project progressed.Performed maintenance and optimization on distillation equipment that was nonoperational and part of a previous capital project. After getting the equipment operational and optimized, I trained operators throughout multiple sessions on how to use the equipment. Benefits of the operational equipment included a large reduction in hazardous waste generation and a reduction in new material purchasing costs of $17,000 per year.

Used AutoCAD to design the layout of a main compressed air header on a new assembly line. Worked with contractors and other engineers to identify what was needed and what was possible. Improved upon the designs of pre-existing air headers by switching to rust resistant piping, adding isolating valves to reduce air losses, and increasing the diameter of the pipe.Performed energy studies on some of the large machinery around the plant in an effort to promote sustainability as a part of the WCM continuous improvement philosophy. Identified several solutions to reduce energy consumption: adding insulation to thermal systems, strategically finding blocks of time where machines could be turned off, and optimizing the usage of the pumps in the paint system.Projected energy savings of around 1,000,000 kWh per year.
