With an electrification rate of only 7%, Malawi offers great potential for solar. Drew worked with CRT/N to build their capacity to implement hydraulic ram pump projects. The technology is an appropriate water pump designed for operation in rural water supply and irrigation projects. Responsible for developing the programme, Drew coordinated the USAID funded pilot project implementing two water projects in rural villages of Nepal, and associated engineering activities.

Drew worked with SIBAT to build their capacity to implement small wind turbine – solar PV projects in rural communities of the Philippines. Responsible for development of the small wind energy programme, Drew managed project and engineering activities. He gained experience working with local organisations in rural areas on a range of decentralised renewable energy technologies, including micro-hydro, and associated livelihood and sustainable agriculture programmes.
