Lieutenant, Criminal Investigations Division
Current- Assists in establishing Department rules, regulations, policies and procedures.- Assists in the screening and selection of applicants for the Vermillion Police Department. Manages and assists with conducting background investigations on applicants.- Coordinates division's daily work activities, organizes and prioritizes workload, makes work assignments, monitors status of work in progress, inspects completed work, and troubleshoots problem situations.- Develops tactical surveillance plans. Handles logistics and supervises surveillance operations and informants to gain information on potential criminal activity or active investigations. - Establishes and maintains liaisons with other criminal justice agencies, individuals, and organizations to develop sources of information. Identifies and interviews known and potential victims, witnesses, and suspects. - Photographs crime scenes, identifies and collects physical evidence, analyzes data and establishes the validity and significance of information, and reviews data for trends and significant inter-relationships. - Investigates organized crime groups. - Reviews reports generated by the Patrol Division to determine appropriate assignments and/or case disposition. Acts as a resource to Patrol supervisors during complex criminal investigations. - Writes reports on cases and investigative activities.- Disseminates information to other Department units and criminal justice agencies. Assists outside criminal justice agencies in investigations of mutual concern. Serves as an information liaison. - Submits reports of refined information orally and in writing to supervisors. - Supervises maintenance of accurate and efficient record-keeping system. Monitors the flow of reports to and from the records division. Controls distribution of information. - Resolves conflicts and grievances. - Manages and evaluates the school resource officer.
