Providing GIS and data management for the Forest Resilience division with a primary focus on urban forestry

• Creating soil properties grids, calibrating and modeling soil moisture, and simulating seedling drought stress to support research on drought impacts across the Western US.• Analyzed climate change impacts to examine the likelihood of ecoregion transition within global protected areas and identify areas that are likely to remain stable to target for future protection.• Developed an interactive map of post-fire vegetation research and management case studies using Shiny App and Leaflet in R. The map was designed with input from natural resource scientists and managers to provide an interactive database to help users find post-fire management science and case study findings and recommendations to inform practices.

• Co-lead/facilitated working groups of natural resource scientists and managers in a Deep Dive on the state of post-fire vegetation transition. • Conducted literature reviews and integrated working group feedback, culminating in a written synthesis with an actionable science agenda that identifies knowledge gaps, products, and research areas to direct NWCASC grant funding. The report summary and expanded syntheses are available on the NWCASC Ecological Transformation webpage.• Helped lead a special session panel at the 2021 Northwest Climate Conference on the results of the Deep Dive.

• Researched drought impacts on vegetation using modeled and remote-sensed geospatial data to examine plant water sensitivity to environmental drivers of drought in the western U.S., highlighting the importance of soil moisture in driving plant water fluxes, especially in forest to non-forest transitional ecotones.• The research manuscript was published in the journal Remote Sensing of Environment.

• Assessed growth and management of young tree plantations and contract compliance monitoring and quality control on precommercial thin operations in DNR western Washington regions.• Was promoted and put in charge of supervising and managing a graduate intern and new technician during field operations.• Analyzed data collected for a regional silviculture monitoring project and prepared visual summaries on young stand growth patterns for a Washington DNR report on the effectiveness of young stand management strategies and challenges.
