Proxicom purchased my original company, Square Earth, for our client base including names like Compaq, GE and Microsoft and for our expertise with the Microsoft platform and its various web technologies. In those days, the Microsoft platform was barely tapped for developing web sites, but it was starting to show signs of strength with the introduction of its Active Server Pages platform.

This was my first "real" job straight out of high school. I knew HTML and I was doing

s which were cutting edge. I also knew how to do CGI with Perl. On the job I started to learn database technology like SQL and we used an early server side rendering engine called WebDBC. We slowly started to become more focused on emerging Microsoft technologies with the original IIS and Active Server Pages.
