As Communications Director for Buckeye Hills Regional Council, I am responsible for developing communications strategies that advance Buckeye Hills Regional Council’s work as a Local Development District for the Appalachian Regional Commission and the Ohio Governor’s Office of Appalachia; an Economic Development District for the Economic Development Administration; District 18 Liaison to the Ohio Public Works Commission; a Regional Transportation Planning Organization for the Ohio Department of Transportation; Ohio Area Agency on Aging Region 8; the Southeast Ohio Aging & Disability Resource Network; and the Southeast Ohio Regional Digital Inclusion Alliance. My responsibilities include: • Working collaboratively with our leadership team to manage communication with local, state, and federal elected officials for regional community and economic development and area agency on aging priorities; • Coordinating internal communication with more than 60 staff across four agency divisions; • Designing and producing materials for the agency website, social media, email, print, and local media; • Writing speeches, letters, articles, and press releases; and • Coordinating media buys for general advertising, human resources, and programmatic needs.

Marietta, Ohio

I joined the team at Peoples Bank Theatre just as the 1,000-seat historic venue was preparing to reopen for the first time in 30 years. I led the marketing efforts of the theatre from preparation for its grand re-opening to its present-day position as one of southeast Ohio's leading performing arts and live entertainment venues. When I left, the theatre was welcoming more than 30,000 yearly guests through its doors, generating more than $1 million in annual gross ticket revenue, and receiving support from more than 200 annual members. In addition, I served as a voice for historic preservation, public art, and downtown revitalization through Marietta Main Street. Working to raise the profile of the theatre, I collaborated with the Marietta-Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Greater Parkersburg CVB to promote the theatre and the region as a tourism destination. I also: • Researched, selected, and implemented the initial ticketing system and managed transition to a new provider and improved system for selling more than 30,000 tickets annually; • Assisted in the coordination of fundraising events and event sponsor recognition; and • Provided oversight of box office staff and customer care for more than 100 events annually.

For more than a decade, I worked as a freelance consultant in web development, marketing, and social media strategy. My clients included the West Virginia Press Association, Philanthropy West Virginia, Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Pocahontas County Opera House, Pocahontas County Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Music Trail, Snowshoe Rentals, Allegheny Mountain Radio, and Pocahontas Memorial Hospital. During this time, I also served as a consultant for the West Virginia Division of Culture & History Peer Assistance Network, providing coaching and strategic planning to the boards of nonprofit arts organizations across the state. In addition, I worked with Allegheny Mountain Radio and local CVBs to design the award-winning heritage tourism website Traveling219.com. My passion projects included historic photographic processes: tintypes, ambrotypes, salt printing, glass negative retouching, and Cirkut panoramic photography for commissioned work and fine art.

In a town of 1,200 people, the Pocahontas County Opera House is one of those rare historic arts venues that punches well above its weight. During my tenure, we played host to national touring artists including The Avett Brothers, The Low Anthem, Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), and Leon Redbone, as well as the region's best local musicians. In addition to presenting nearly 20 major performances each year, I managed the Opera House's rental program, which earned the Opera House its place as the county's gathering place for everything from hospital fundraisers to the annual banquet of the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. As the WVNPA’s first Operations Coordinator, I worked closely with the Executive Director to manage member communications, regional roundtables, statewide advocacy, and relationships with partner agencies. I developed an online self-assessment tool and wiki for nonprofit leaders and board members to gauge their adherence to West Virginia Principles & Practices for Nonprofits. This tool would generate a customized scorecard they could use to highlight those areas where they are currently aligned with best practices and those where they need further work. I also redesigned wvnpa.org, integrating the site with platforms for both content management and constituent relationship management.

At this family-owned weekly newspaper in rural Appalachia, I wrote and supplied photography for 3-6 stories each week, covering municipal and county government, U.S. Forest Service activities, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, recreation and development at Snowshoe Mountain Resort, education, tourism, and human interest. My work earned recognition from the West Virginia Press Association for news writing, feature writing, and photography in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2012.As the paper's digital media manager, I also:• Developed and Managed PocahontasTimes.com and companion electronic edition.• Developed Pocahontas Times mobile applications for iOS and Android.• Provided customer support for website, electronic edition, and mobile applications• Developed and deployed interactive advertising channels in collaboration with our advertising team.• Maintained office network and workstations.

In my first post-college position, I served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA with Ohio Campus Compact at the Oberlin College Center for Service & Learning.
