Innovation is the theme of my career. I've held numerous administrative, research, teaching and advocacy positions promoting population health education and training programs, health data analytics and design, strong community health systems, scientific public health practice, and effective disease prevention strategies.I enjoy identifying and exploring unseen strategic opportunities. At the Jefferson University College of Population Health (JCPH), I conceived and developed the nation's first master's degree programs in Population Health practice and Population Health Intelligence. I direct the Scholarly Inquiry: Health Policy track for the Sidney Kimmel Medical College.I designed and deployed several highly evaluated graduate courses for advanced health professionals and earned the JCPH Master of Online Learning award for my high achievement and innovation in online teaching. I developed and teach in JCPH’s highly recommended Population Health Academy, an intensive five-day boot camp. I speak at American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) seminars and other national meetings.My previous positions include President of the NJ Association for Biomedical Research, Assistant Director of the NJ Center for Public Health Preparedness (NJCPHP) and Assistant Professor at the UMDNJ School of Public Health (now part of Rutgers University). I taught and conducted research on public health law, assessment and preparedness through grants with the CDC, the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, the NJ Department of Health & Senior Services, and other agencies and private foundations. At NJCPHP, I conceived and managed the Public Health Leadership Initiative for Emergency Response (PHLIER)—a fellowship program for emerging public health leaders. I founded the NJ Public Health Institute, was president of the NJ Public Health Association and was twice elected to the APHA Executive Board. For several years, I co-hosted “HouseCalls,” a radio health talk show.
