I find my job at Gecko Software fun and rewarding. As a software developer, I'm helping to create software that is unique and useful.The programming languages and related tools and products we use include Visual Studio MFC/C++, NetBeans/Java, Notepad++, Hyper-V/VirtualBox, and the GIMP/Krita, in addition to word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Worked with 15 other full-time professionals to support customers and technologies across campus. At the university, we supported hundreds of customers each day. As such, many technical skills were required to meet the needs of each customer. We researched and implemented a variety of solutions and often went beyond their expectations to create raving fans. Customers always came first and we were committed to resolving each problem to the fullest extent possible.Some of the tools needed to perform the work included hardware and software for Windows, Apple, and Android devices.Several software solutions were used each day, such as Microsoft SCCM (along with Powershell, batch commands, and NSIS installers) and Apple Remote Desktop (for use with AppleScript) for hardware and software deployment and management, Apple Remote Desktop for managing several remote Mac computers at once, ServiceNow for inventory tracking and incident management and reporting, Office suites on both Mac and Windows, and Adobe Photoshop and the GIMP for some graphics editing.We researched and kept up on a variety of technologies and helped by training others that needed them, which included Dropbox, Google education products (such as Google Drive, Voice, Docs, Gmail, etc.), Microsoft education tools (such as OneDrive and team collaboration tools built into online Microsoft Word and Excel products, Microsoft Yammer, Slack for business (with some automated provisioning), Box and Dropbox.Although all of these tools were important to accomplishing the required tasks, at the forefront of my role was the need to provide exceptional customer service in an effective and timely manner. It was an incredible experience and I loved working with that amazing team.

Problem solving, communication, and technical skills were important in my role. Customers often required urgent help with technical issues and needed someone that could explain tough concepts both verbally and in writing. Some items that required our help included troubleshooting network connection issues, software installations, hardware failure, email and calendar issues, file sharing, software migration and deployment issues.To help out our customers and my teammates with urgent requests, I developed some new procedures using batch files and Visual Basic scripts.A few software tools were required for the position, such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft remote connection tools, VPN connection software as well as some incident tracking systems.

Communicated with customers about their technology-related needs and quickly came up with suggestions that fit their budget and needs.Selected as the employee of the month because of a positive, friendly, and hard working mindset.

Our team worked quickly to build, maintain, and repair a variety of computer issues. For example, we custom built and installed computers on-site for local businesses, maintained their networks, and fixed their printers. We earned Certifications to perform warranty work for companies like Hewlett-Packard. As the company expanded, I was also asked to provide tech support for Innovion, a new and upcoming internet service provider. In addition to providing customer service, I was able to create documentation that others could use to help with troubleshooting.
