A serial entrepreneur, Drew has been at the forefront of technology innovation for over four decades.Drew's latest company, Eridu AI, is currently in stealth mode, though the name hints at what we're up to!Mojo Vision, a company he founded in 2015, invented the future of computing. Invisible Computing. Information when you need it, unobtrusive, without burying your head in a device or screen, connecting with others at a glance, anytime, anywhere, and all while looking like you. The Mojo Lens utilizes Mojo's groundbreaking micro-LED displays, the world's smallest and densest display technology. Mojo is now developing micro-LED displays for use in other AR/VR glasses and goggles, as well as existing products like TVs, monitors, smartphones and smart wearables.Gainspeed, which Drew founded in 2012, changed the game for cable operators and was acquired by Nokia in the summer of 2016. Drew co-founded Infinera Corporation in 2001 and served as Infinera's CTO until 2012. Infinera developed the first optical system based on large-scale photonic integrated circuits. Infinera established itself as the technology leader of the worldwide long-haul telecom market and did a successful IPO in 2007. Before Infinera, Drew was co-founder and CTO of metropolitan telecommunications service provider OnFiber Communications, a startup that brought high-bandwidth fiber-based data services to small and medium-sized businesses in major metro areas nationwide. OnFiber was acquired by Qwest Communications. In 1998, Drew co-founded Lightera Networks, which developed the CoreDirector optical switching platform. Lightera was acquired by Ciena Corporation for more than $500 million in 1999. Drew made several important contributions to the early development of the Internet and was lead author of the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), technology that enabled computers to access the Internet over circuit-switched telephone lines. Drew has held various roles in industry standards bodies and research organizations including the IETF, IEEE, OIF, ATM Forum and Internet2. Drew's interests outside of work include technology education for the next generation of innovators. He has endowed the Drew D. Perkins Professorship in Advanced Networking and Communications at Carnegie-Mellon University.

Chairman Of The BoardMojo Vision Mar 2023 - PresentSaratoga, California, Us -
CeoMojo Vision Aug 2015 - Mar 2023Saratoga, California, UsCoincident with founding my previous company, Gainspeed, I developed cataracts in my eyes. I had cataract surgery to implant advanced Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) in both eyes, giving me bionic eyes as well as the other bionic body parts I received in 1991. But while my new bionic eyes give me perfect vision near and far, they still have some deficiencies. I decided that my next company would solve that problem, not just for me, but for millions of other people in the world. So, following my sabbatical, and once all my children had gone back to school, I founded Mojo Vision with exactly that goal: to give all people superpowers, even if they have impaired vision. Mojo Vision is developing the Mojo Lens, the first true Smart Contact Lens. The Mojo Lens is designed to help people struggling with low vision by projecting enhanced image overlays onto their retinas. It provides real-time contrast and lighting enhancements as well as zoom functionality and other low vision aids. It can remain discreet for the wearer and allow a hands-free experience, while delivering enhanced functional vision to assist in mobility, reading, and sighting. The Mojo Lens has a built-in display that also gives its wearer useful and timely information without forcing them to look down at a screen or losing focus on the people and the world around them. Mojo calls this eyes-up experience Invisible Computing, a platform that enables information to be instantaneous, unobtrusive and available hands-free. People can interact with each other more freely and genuinely. The Mojo team consists of a number of the world’s smartest people in a wide variety of different disciplines from hardware to software to optometry. If you want to join an incredible team to build the future of computing, let me know.Drew -

InjuredHome Dec 1991 - Feb 1993December 14, 1991: the luckiest day of my life. The BAD LUCK: I was hit by a truck...literally. A twice-convicted murderer, who had just been let out on parole, was driving drunk and crossed the center line of the road. He hit me and my small sporty car nearly head-on at perhaps 100+ MPH. My eye sockets, nose, jaw, left acetabulum, and right tibia were broken, several nerves and numerous organs were damaged, and I was knocked unconscious instantly. I had surgery to implant enough hardware in my body to fill a small store making me a bionic man. I spent the next three weeks connected to machines in a coma and in traction before waking up. Three more months were spent in casts and in a hospital bed. The rest of the year was spent learning to walk again as my left leg was left partially paralyzed for life. To add insult to injury, the drunk driver had no drivers license, car registration or automobile insurance. The GOOD LUCK: I lived and invested the measily $75,000 I received from my automobile insurance's uninsured motorist coverage into CSCO.December 14, 1991: the luckiest day of my life.

Network DevelopmentCarnegie Mellon University Aug 1981 - Dec 1989Pittsburgh, Pa, UsI started out making RS-232 cables and wound up inventing significant technologies used in the Internet.I helped CMU build one of the first Enterprise Local Area Networks. In 1984, I created CMU PC/IP, a popular variant of the MIT PC/IP software package for accessing the Internet from MS-DOS PCs. CMU PCIP was used in 1986 as the foundation for FTP Software's popular PC/TCP software package, which powered FTP Software to an Initial Public Offering. In 1987, I served as CMU's representative to the 6th meeting of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the standards organization for the Internet. In 1988, I was acknowledged in RFC-1042, "A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams over IEEE 802 Networks", and in RFC-1048, "BOOTP Vendor Information Extensions".I also led the development of the bootpd, a popular software server implementation of the Internet Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP). BOOTP was the predecessor of and inspiration for the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).I invented the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) and in 1989 authored RFC-1134, "Point-to-Point Protocol: A proposal for multi-protocol transmission of datagrams over Point-to-Point links", RFC-1171, "The Point-to-Point Protocol for the Transmission of Multi-Protocol Datagrams Over Point-to-Point Links", and RFC-1172, "The Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) Initial Configuration Options" while co-chairing the PPP Working Group. I also wrote a software implementations of PPP that was incorporated into many popular commercial hardware and software products. In or around 1987, inspired by the SynOptics LattisNet, the first multi-port Ethernet Hub, and the DEC LAN Bridge 100, the first two-port Ethernet bridge, I co-founded my first company, Entelechy, and designed what may have been the world's first multi-port Ethernet switch. Unfortunately, hamstrung by my lack of business experience, the project was never completed.
