Recipient of the 2023 Outstanding Master’s Thesis award o Conducted data collection, cleaning, and econometric analysis, using fixed effects regression, to find the effects of bovine leukemia virus infection on dairy cow herd longevity, and partial profitability. Found that bovine leukemia virus positive cows have a reduction in partial profit of $414 per year, when compared to their negative herd mates. o Wrote master’s thesis showing the process for data collection, my hypotheses, methods, testing approach, results, and research and policy implications for the study of the economic impact of bovine leukemia virus on dairy cow profitability. o Developed a producer decision tool for dairy producers to input farm financial and bovine leukemia virus testing data. This tool allows producers to have an estimated annual partial profitability loss due to bovine leukemia virus infection in their milking herd.

o Worked alongside the farm economy branch to complete a research project on farm household welfare, focusing on farm household expenditures, utilizing the national ARMS survey.o Used Stata to complete a comparative time-series analysis on farm household expenditures with data from ARMS survey and the Bureau of Labor and Statistics on average U.S household expenditures. Found that farm households spend more on health care, health insurance, and utilities, but have higher overall wealth than the average U.S household.o Completed a review of ARMS survey methodology and provided suggestions on areas where survey imputations and forecasting models could be improved.o Presented research project analysis and outcomes to farm economy branch.
