I care a lot about cannabis.I remember getting caught with marijuana as a teen and telling my father, "This is going to be legal somewhere one day, and I'm going to be there doing it." Fast forward to when the Cole Memo was announced—I threw a party in Austin, Texas, celebrating that pivotal shift in federal cannabis enforcement.In 2015, I moved to California with hopes of landing in the cannabis industry. After moonlighting and doing everything I could to get my foot in the door, I became the Product Manager for an extraction equipment company. My passion for cannabis products quickly propelled me into high-level discussions about scaled-up cannabis product manufacturing.I knew that other consumer goods had sensory departments—people tasked with taste-testing products for a living. Early on, I realized cannabis would have the same needs, and I did everything in my power to make sure that person was me. In 2017, I achieved that goal and started defining product development goals and quality standards for large-scale vape manufacturers.In addition to my passion for cannabis products, I've always been politically minded. With a background in policy debate, I understood how opaque and dense regulatory processes can be. While working with large-scale distillate suppliers in Southern California, I ventured into license acquisition and lobbying on local and state levels, aiming to make regulations more approachable and transparent.In 2020, as attitudes about vaping changed, I was recruited by True Terpenes to manage Product Innovations and Government Affairs. True Terpenes has the privilege of supplying the largest cannabis product manufacturers in both the regulated marijuana and hemp industries. This unique position has given me the opportunity to analyze regulations in every recreational and medical cannabis market in the United States and nearly 50 international markets.My fervor for developing sensible regulations for this industry and providing consumers with the best possible cannabis products has only grown over the years. Now, I have the privilege of working with regulators in various markets and at the federal level, sharing my experience as we strive together to create regulations that foster small business participation, a robust cannabis economy, and most importantly, access to incredible products for consumers.This is just the beginning of my journey. It started with the Cole Memo, and my hope is that one day soon I'll be able to tell my father, "Now cannabis is legal everywhere, and I helped make that happen."
