Year one was to realize the UNO brand. What would a college cigar bar vibed casual dining space be as a brand? That was fun, but having to speak at a 6th grade level was painful. Year 2 was where the fun started. The CEO and COO took me on multiple trips to NYC to study the myriad ways people merchandise and sell food. The cheese display at the lower Manhattan Whole foods still has my mind blown. This projects ultimate outcome would be the creation of a healthy grab and go that felt like an open air european market with abundance being the key thing presented. The financial driver was to compete with similar offerings from other brands, and to pull in the same revenue as a full restaurant, with 1/10th the space, no parking, and 10 employees. • Rebrand the company• Brand and store design for evolution business model• Custom illustrations done in the spirit of American painters, Willem de Kooning and Norman Lewis, that served as fine art for the space• Custom merch displays for the different food families• Custom backlit menu boards done in a Bauhaus style • Broadcast 30/60 with feature length for the lobby experience• Photo shoot direction. The output of these shoots still stand as art

Pixel was regional kingpin of pumping out websites. It was the dark days of pipelines and keyboard shortcuts. Using scientific research to manipulate people while in experience was the highlight for me. Using science as a capitalist dark art is ok with me, just in small doses.
Sr Art Director
C&M was a regional advertising and branding agency. Here I was the design lead for the agency with dedicated clients I managed. Provena Health Systems in Illinois was my largest, where we hired a World Series winning White Sox pitcher as the MC and spokesperson for a large ad campaign and event. Highlight of this client was making a 15 minute video to kick off the event...with a voice actor that is indistinguishable from James Earl Jones. Of all the creative I've misplaced over the years, the loss of this one hurts the most.
Art Director
1185 was a darling of the Sand Hill VC's during the whiplash that was the .com bubble. By late 2002 I was eyeing early retirement. Spoiler. Yeah. My job there was to create brand packages for many nascent companies that never left the ground. In these packages, Swiss design was the touchstone, and made for some really lovely brands.
Art Director
COMDEX was the place where, if you made business computers and gear, you were there. If you weren't there you don't exist anymore. At its largest we had 1 Million sq/ft of exhibitor space. My roll was twofold. One was big show management, designing systems that would blanket Las Vegas every fall. My other responsibility was management of the Linux Business Expo brand. Highlight of that was learning 3D software to re-render the Linux penguin to be holding a flip-phone and aluminum briefcase. For the COMDEX brand I did 2 large campaigns. One was centered on my headline "Maybe they should call it .comdex". The largest feature of this was a pay-for-position full page WSJ ad that I illustrated. The other was a premium gift, given to the 300 CEOs whose companies we wanted back at the show. There were spot varnishes, die cuts...all the expensive stuff. Inside was a GPS pre-programed to give the person who turns it on directions to Vegas. GPS was new. This thing blew minds. The one broadcast I worked on I licensed sheet music of a doors song to use as keyboard soundbed, and miraculously choose the best location for a shoot. Downtown Chicago on Superbowl Sunday. The empty streets were the punch line to the story flow.
