As Sr. R&D Manager, I was responsible for all mobile and handheld hardware, software, firmware, and driver/API development. Itron's mobile and handheld systems are used to read, program, and interrogate Itron endpoints. Utilities use these systems to collect gas, water, and electric meter consumption history, as well as to perform specialized tasks such as remotely disconnect the meter's service.Products included: Mobile Collector hardware and software, FCS meter reading software, FC300 handhelds, and various belt clip radios used for meter reading and installation.

For the first 4 years of my career at Itron, I was responsible for all of our regulatory approvals. This included RF approvals for endpoints and readers, intrinsic safety approvals for all gas endpoints, ANSI C12.1 approvals for electric meter reading modules, and electric safety approvals for some of our line-powered readers.I spent most of my time on US and Canadian regulations, but did some approvals for Australia, Mexico, Japan, the EU, and various Caribbean countries.

ViA was a small startup company that made wearable computers. These computers had the processing power of a desktop computer but could be worn around the waist. They were flexible in the middle and supported a small range of handheld displays and peripheral boxes that were also ViA products.

I spent the beginning of my career in the system integration lab for the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) project.

I spent the first two years of my life as a food taster for the king of Elbonia. He only ate baby food, so I was a natural candidate. Unfortunately, a rare type of bacteria that can cause brain damage was found in the food. I do not believe that it had any effect on me, but the King was not as fortunate. My family and I were forced to flee Elbonia and move to America, where I eventually became an engineer.
