About Dr. Farhana Baset
An energetic experienced scientific researcher with strong researching, analyzing and data processing skills. Strong team builder and mentor experienced in both industry and academic milieus in laser field (ultrafast photonics), currently managing a team of 18 engineers and technicians. Strong attention to details, good interpersonal skills, highly self- motivated and directed, proficient in building and leading teams and managing collaborative relationships, familiar with most of the computerized instrumentation, highly experienced in preparing scientific reports and presentations, able to quickly learn and adopt new technologies and willing to accept challenges.Beside managing the femtosecond laser lab and team of 18 scientists and technicians, optical lithography and spectroscopy are two main components of my technical expertise. I have hands-on experience in the laser-solid interaction and applications in fabricating in-fiber photonic devices. To meet the demands of miniaturization in telecommunication, I designed and fabricated in-fiber photonic devices that have inherent advantages of low losses and cost, compact size, no alignment issues and easy readout using existing technology, which are based on the waveguide structures created inside fibers using the femtosecond lasers. I am experienced in analyzing the waveguide structures using different techniques such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and Near-Field Scanning Optical Microscopy (NSOM), Scanning Electron Microscopy, InterFiber Analysis and improving the quality of waveguide and therefore, investigating the applications of femtosecond lasers for medical, industrial, telecom, and sensors applications. Besides research experience, I have academic experience since 2003. I have performed various teaching responsibilities such as undergraduate research trainer, lab demonstrator, in-class demonstrator, guiding discussion groups for undergraduate students at different universities, as well as in different countries, which allowed me to develop good communication and inter-personal skills.
Listed skills include Physics, Laser Physics, Photonics, Nanotechnology, and 18 others.
