I have over 20 years’ experience in the IT industry, primarily with a focus on software engineering with Microsoft technologies: .NET, C#, SQL Server, PowerShell, Azure DevOps and the wider Microsoft Azure platform. Being the passionate technologist that I am I also have extensive experience in a variety of complementary areas such as cloud infrastructure implementation, DevOps, Agile, SQL Server administration, test automation and on-premises virtualisation.Over the years I’ve been employed in many capacities: 12 years as a coalface developer, 15 years in leadership and management (from small teams to a large 90-person department) and a stint in consultancy. I’m also a Scrum.org certified Scrum Master. I’m passionate about building collaborative teams who are excited about working with each other to build great software, as well as helping to inspire individuals to achieve their full potential.I consider myself a lifelong learner and I’ve spent many years blogging about some of the technical practices of DevOps at https://pleasereleaseme.net. I love tinkering with Raspberry PIs, Arduinos and hobby electronics, and formerly (before moving away from the South West) helped to run and organise Exeter Raspberry Jam and Code Club. Amongst other things I’m currently teaching myself assembly language programming and I'm a volunteer with AbilityNet, a charity that helps disabled and older people with IT problems.
