H.E. Dr Hala Zaid Egyptian Minister of Health and Population MBBch, MBA, DBA, MD. Started her career as gynecologist, then Minister at the Ministry of Health and Population. As an expert for more than 30 years, I was listed in the second publication of 100 Most Influential African Women in 2020 by Avance Media; Dr.Hala Zaid is Egypt’s former Minister of Health and Population; the world champion in hepatitis C elimination. I led the presidential initiative for hepatitis C elimination in Africa and supported many countries with hepatitis C diagnostics, medications, and capacity building.I was elected as chairperson of the 67th session of the Regional Committee, the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization.I also chaired the regional committee for Polio-virus eradication which enforced the regional action plan of polio virus containment aiming for polio eradication from EMRO region.I was selected to chair the specialized technical committee on health, population and drug control under the African union in 2019 and for 2 years.I led the highest solidarity efforts and commitment at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic through its unprecedented visits to China and Italy, breaking the siege of formality to promote and enforce humanitarian efforts towards people all over the world.Zaid led the execution of the universal health coverage program in Egypt as the first model in Africa; and launched for the first time the public health initiaves aimed at the elimination and control of many health problems like breast cancer, neonatal hearing abnormalities, noncommunicable diseases.Dr. Zaid was a key leader in holding the Harvard Medical School- Egyptian Ministry of Health joint programme with an ambitious vision to graduate 3000 physicians through different education programmes, masters and scholarships in different health related aspects, presenting the role model of investment in healthcare workers' capabilities. With the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Zaid led the national and regional efforts for the COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing and localization in Egypt, in which a great collaboration was built between Sinovac company in China and Vacsera company in Egypt under WHO guidance which succeeded in local production of more than 40 million doses of Sinovac- Vacsera COVID-19 vaccine which enabled the local satisfaction of the domestic needs and allowed Egypt to donate to neighbor countries .Dr. Hala was elected to be the director of the executive board of the health ministers' Arab council at the Arab League in 2019 and for 3 years.
