About Marcelle Hayashida, Ph.D, Nbc-Hwc, Ryt

Dr. Marcelle Hayashida is associate vice chancellor for Wellness, Health & Counseling Services at the University of California, Irvine. Prior to her position as AVC, Dr. Hayashida served as associate dean of students/dean of women at Pomona College in Claremont, California. Dr. Hayashida grew up in Virginia and received bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and French from Vassar College. She completed her master's degree and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan, where she focused her research efforts in the area of Black women’s sexuality. Dr. Hayashida is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in California, and has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, college counseling centers, and as assistant professor of Psychology and Black Studies at Pomona College. She has authored articles on African American mental health and college mental health, and has presented on a variety of topics including Black women’s mental health, Black women in student affairs, yoga for depression, campus threat assessment, using technology in mental health, and depictions of psychotherapy in the cinema. She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi), Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA), and the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education (AABHE). She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance and is the founder of L.A.B. Wellness Coaching and Yoga, offering health coaching and private yoga instruction.
