I demonstrated the ability to grow membership through the shared benefit of developing better teachers, while offering employees a stronger voice in their own lives. One such local organization was Pflugerville Educators’ Association. Their membership stood at 16 teachers. After working with district administration and local leadership, the membership grew to over 500 members. I was also instrumental in the organization’s ability to find common ground among disparate political beliefs. My work directly resulted in full credit for high school athletics, the inclusion of minority figures in history textbooks, a new protocol for adopting education standards, stricter guidelines on teacher training entities, and the introduction of Response to Intervention to Texas. My collaborative work with TSTA and NEA colleagues resulted in statewide salary increases, lower testing burdens on students, stronger professional development standards, and improved healthcare for employees.
