Nasa InternNasa - National Aeronautics And Space Administration Jul 2019 - Sep 2019Mountain View, California, United StatesI designed and built an environmental monitoring payload that was deployed on the KREX-II rover as part of the Atacama Rover Astrobiology Drilling Studies (ARADS). To do this I taught myself CAD modelling using Solidworks as well as multimaterial 3D printing using a Prusa i3 and Cura. I also learnt basic Python to write the self-logging script and assembled a stand-alone Rasberry Pi module with the environmental sensors. For my other roles, I established the central communications protocols and data storage scheme that enabled ARADS operations in California during the simulated Martian mission with the rover deployed in Chile. My unique contribution to the ARADS project was my ability to communicate and collaborate between the engineering, science and operations teams which facilitated the overall success the of project.
