About Dripta Dutta, Ph.D.
I am a structural geologist, and much of my recent works focused on investigating the crust's ductile and brittle deformation processes, from outcrop- to grain-scale. I use the EBSD technique and the open-source Matlab toolbox MTEX extensively for the latter. Although having worked in the Indian Himalaya for nearly seven years, laboratory analyses excite me as much as fieldwork. Over the years, I have acquired proficiency in C++, R, and MATLAB programming languages and finite element modelling through independent training. I intend to integrate these tools into my future research projects. One of my long-term goals is to learn R-/Python-based statistical and big data analytics and promote their utility across various fields of Earth Sciences. Subsequently, I aim to contribute towards the advancement of the subject as a leading researcher at an academic institute and nurture next-generation geoscientists.
Listed skills include Geology, Microsoft Office, Structural Geology, C++, and 7 others.

Thesis Title: Opposite shear kinematics from the Lesser Himalayan and the Trans-Himalayan terranes, NW IndiaMentor - Prof. Soumyajit Mukherjee
Teaching Assistant
My role was to instruct graduate students (M.Sc. & M.Tech) on the structural interpretation of geological maps. Besides, I also demonstrated to them the basics of palaeostress analyses (T-Tecto Studio X5) and numerical modelling (COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4a), emphasizing particularly on problem-solving using the aforementioned softwares.

Field Workshop Trainee
Explored the geological complexities of the collisional orogen in the Zanskar Valley (NW Himalaya) as a part of a 15 member team. Deciphered possible series of neotectonic deformations that could have led to the diverse glacio-fluvial geomorphological features. Located, traced, and investigated the sense as well as the sequence of deformation (with the help of meso-scale structural features typical of shear zones) of the South Tibetan Detachment along the Kargil-Padam transect. Was part of a seven-member team that was in charge of organizing various intra-departmental cultural and sports events. Ensured quick, error-free, and easy access to the essential notices viz. invited talks/lectures, AAPG/SEG/SPE sponsored quiz competitions. Introduced a “Registration Link” for the alumni through which they could choose to share their contact details with the enrolled students, thereby bridging the gap between the two.

Summer Intern
During this internship, I developed a sound grasp of the cement manufacturing process, especially limestone excavation from the quarries and the associated drilling and blasting techniques. I also conducted GPS aided litho-structural mapping of the ~NE-SW trending ‘Central Ridge’ of the RAS-II mine (over a period of ~10 days). Apart from that, I evaluated the grade of limestones by computing the modal percentages of CaO and MgO in the drill samples with the help of X-ray diffraction (XRD)… Show more During this internship, I developed a sound grasp of the cement manufacturing process, especially limestone excavation from the quarries and the associated drilling and blasting techniques.
