About Janine Krippner

My background is physical volcanology, which means I have studied the physical processes that occur during eruptions using a wide range of methods and tools. I have also been working on projects including tsunamis, science communication, and residential fire risk in New Zealand. My core focus has always been contributing to areas that can help people.I love working with others and have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with experts across fields including meteorology, tsunami science, risk science, emergency management, and seismology. This has been through research projects, paper writing, and communication efforts.I have worked with global media to get information out on volcanoes, co-hosted a podcast (and have been a guest on many), and have been active on social media. I currently write the weekly column On Shaky Ground for the Te Awamutu and Cambridge News newspapers to give back to my home community through educating on hazards and preparedness topics. My work has spanned several areas of volcano research and has included remote sensing and ArcGIS analysis, and I have been involved in science communication that has included crisis communication to broad audiences. I am currently in Hamilton New Zealand where I wish to apply my skills and experience closer to home.
