Dr. Jim Butler is the Chief Technology Officer of Bombora, the industry leader in B2B intent data. Prior to Bombora, Jim served as CTO of Stavvy and HqO; early stage companies within the mortgage and commercial real estate sectors, respectively. Previously, Jim was CTO of Global Supply Platforms for Verizon Media, a journey that began as CTO of Nexage, which was later acquired by Millennial Media and then AOL/Verizon. During this arc, Jim also served as Co-Chair of the IAB/OpenRTB, leading the standards for real-time digital media commerce. Other CTO roles included eCredit, a B2B credit decisioning platform later acquired by Fidelity Ventures and now owned and operated by Moody’s.From 2002-2022, Jim served as the founding Chairman of the Technology Leadership Council, Boston Chapter. He is the author of the 2003 book “Technology Blueprints: Technology Foundations for High Performance Companies” along with numerous technical publications in IEEE, ACM, and other journals and conferences, as well as three granted patents in the areas of digital media and reliable web service architecture. Jim holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, a Masters in Computer Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a BSEE Magna Cum Laude from the University of Lowell.

Adopted as an IAB standard a year later, hundreds of companies now transact billions of dollars in ad spend via the OpenRTB protocol.
