The PEP program is a nationally recognized peer education group, housed under New Jersey City University's Counseling Center. The PEP program has been in existence since 1998 at NJCU, and proudly boasts a strong alumni group of over 500. The PEP model is three-fold: Coordinators and consultants educate the peer educators; educate the community (audience); and the peer educators educate one another. The program is funded by the NJ Division of Highway & Traffic Safety, as well as the Jersey City Alliance to Combat Drug & Alcohol Abuse. The Peers Educating Peers program provides cutting-edge programming in the form of interactive presentations created and performed by the peer educators on a variety of social issues such as: LGBTQIA+ Identities, Mental Health Awareness & Advocacy, Drug & Alcohol Awareness, Undoing Racism, Microaggressions, Intimate Partner Violence, and other college-focused presentations that involve psychodrama techniques.Perhaps what makes the PEP program so unique is that the program does not primarily focus on peer education- the peer educators are involved in their own supportive group work on a weekly basis, led by Coordinator, Dr. Jennifer Mullan, University Staff Psychologist. Dr. Mullan also facilitates weekly groups with the peer educators focusing on a variety of social and emotional issues effecting the students' retention at University- such as family system, health issues, finances, body image, and mental health symptoms and concerns. The group format is ideal for students of color, as it holds an anti-oppression framework. The group has come to be known on campus as a "safe space" for students of all walk of life to receive support, and a "home away from home." The students also have the ability to attend semester retreats led by Dr. Mullan at LBI, NJ to engage in self empowerment, emotional reflection, and anti-oppressive practices for their well being and positive mental health..

New Jersey City University (NJCU) is a leader in excellent urban education. At NJCU, the majority of the undergraduate and master’s level students are first generation college students and continue to live in underserved areas. The Counseling Center offers NJCU students’ free and confidential counseling, delivered by qualified, experienced professionals. Both individual and group counseling are available to address students’ personal, academic, and vocational concerns. The goal of the center is to assist students’ with enhancing their psychological, interpersonal, and intellectual development. The staff works with students’ who are facing a myriad of challenges from interpersonal difficulties, family instability or dysfunction, sexual identity, parasuicidal and suicidal behaviors, characterlogical issues, coping with anxiety or depression, loss, academic difficulties, race-based stress, crisis management, and a variety of academic skill workshops. ,Provided short, long term and triage counseling for individuals and groups regarding psychological, social, career, and/or academic concerns. •Lead National Depression, Alcohol, Anxiety and Eating Disorder Screening Days on campus. •Conduct Time Management, Goal Setting, Conflict and Communication Style workshops, as well as a variety of “as-needed” academic and interpersonal workshops to NJCU community. •Created and co-facilitate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered and Questioning (LGBTQ) Support Group.•Responsible for managing and writing two (2) grants (Jersey City Alliance to Combat Drug and Alcohol Abuse and the New Jersey Division of Highway and Traffic Safety). •Active member on various committees on campus for the betterment of the student population and Jersey City community.

APA-approved Internship in clinical psychology. Worked on the ATP unit- Abuse Treatment Prevention Unit with a caseload of roughly twelve young men in a residential treatment setting. The youth were in the center for sexual offenses and mandated to treatment. Also provided psychological testing and assessments, as well as family therapy in Spanish as needed.

Conducted neuropsychological batteries on individuals who are inflicted with HIV-related dementia, under the supervision of a lisenced psychologist.

Facilitated group (DRD- Difficult-Resistant-Deniar) and conducted individual therapy with High Risk Sexual Offending adults (HRSOs). Additionally held three juvenille offender cases and co-facilitated group.

Co-led milieu of 8-10 severely traumatized latency aged and adolescent youth in a partial care hospitalization program. Majority of the youth were victims of severe complex and trauma sequale. Worked with youth with schizoaffective disorder; bipolar; PDD spectrum; psychosis; conduct related issues; depression; anxiety and learning disabilities.
