Provide cross-campus leadership for DEI and belonging-focused initiatives to meet the needs of diverse PhD and Masters students in biomedical training programs. Engage with partners within the School of Medicine, across Stanford, and externally to develop, identify, and disseminate best practices for fostering inclusion in graduate education. Administer the ADVANCE summer, academic year, and undergraduate institutes, which are comprehensive programs aimed at promoting the academic, professional and personal development of underrepresented, disadvantaged, and other vulnerable student populations in the biosciences.

Design and facilitate belonging curriculum. Launched in 2019, I teach Equitable & Inclusive Leadership. It is the first student-informed and dual-listed justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) course for Berkeley Haas Executive MBA and Evening and Weekend MBA Programs.

Founded the Biomedical Scholars Association with a mission to provide academic support, academic advising, social support, networking opportunities and professional development to students. BSA aims to create meaningful change both within and outside the Johns Hopkins community. Our commitment to diversity includes fostering cultural understanding amongst our members and the population at large. The purposes of the Biomedical Scholars Association are:- To provide a support system for every scholar who considers him or herself an underrepresented minority within the Hopkins community;- To promote the academic and professional success of said scholars;- To enhance minority scholar recruitment to and retention within the Hopkins community;- To provide a network for career development and advancement within the scientific community- To serve our immediate community through volunteerism.

STEM-intensive college preparatory program for low-income, first generation, underrepresented high school students of color. Formerly called The Level Playing Field Institute (LPFI), SMASH is a research driven non-profit based in Oakland, CA that is committed to eliminating the barriers faced by underrepresented people of color in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and fostering their untapped talent for the advancement of our nation. SMASH boasts a rigorous 5-week, 3-year summer, fully residential STEM enrichment program that provides access to STEM coursework and access to mentors, role models, and support networks of students of color. Each summer, SMASH scholars spend five weeks on a college campus immersed in STEM and live among other high-potential, underrepresented (African American, Latino/a, Native American, Southeast Asian or Pacific Islander, first-in-family to attend college) high school students. In addition to summer courses, SMASH scholars remain engaged during the school year through monthly STEM workshops and academic programming. This includes SAT prep, college counseling, financial aid workshops, and other activities to ensure continued academic success.SMASH not only provides equitable access to opportunities, the curriculum reinforces students’ STEM academic identities while developing their critical thinking, civic awareness, leadership and sense of social responsibility.

Organized a meeting on inclusive STEM education at The White House for more than 50 national leaders within my first 40 days in this role. Worked collaboratively with key personnel within President Obama’s Administration, led planning meetings, created agendas, identified and secured participants, wrote summary report and synthesized themes into actionable deliverables. Built the infrastructure for a National STEM Collaborative of 10 higher education member institutions and 10 nonprofit partners to share skills and resources needed to change the education pipeline into a more equitable system for women and girls of color. Developed strategic plan for immediate and long-term milestones, recruited partners and funders, organized and facilitated working meetings, developed web portal and created a matrix of documents (e.g. vision statement, prospectus, and memorandum of understanding between institutions).

Research Associate at the National Museum of American History - three-year appointment within the Museum's Division of Medicine & Science. Research focused on expanding understanding around the historical roles that traditionally underrepresented minorities, specifically American women of color, have contributed to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Portfolio focused on broadening participation for underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Co-created a Roadmap for Action for domestic and international partners during the 2013 Gender Summit-3 North American Conference.First to use NSF’s internal text-mining search engine as a tool for analyzing diversity within federal funding, analyzed the data and created strategic steps for encouraging grant proposals that focus on recruitment, retention and promotion of women and girls in STEM fields. Co-launched NSF's Community College Innovation Challenge, a federally-funded national competition aimed at building the STEM workforce pipeline. Worked cross-Foundationally to create strategies for Principal Investigators to understand the components of high-quality broader impact initiatives for the NSF grant proposal merit review system.

Postdoctoral research focused on the spatial function of the human Bcl-2 protein in cell signaling and programmed cell death.

Expanded on graduate research to further characterized the effects of palmitoylation on the targeting of the SARS-CoV envelope protein to the Golgi region.
