About Jenny James Taylor
I am now Associate Fellow in Journalism at the Kirby Laing Centre for Public Theology, renamed since going independent from Tyndale House. This work flows out of the media charity I founded and led (Lapido Media) for 12 years as CEO. A cultural analyst and journalist, I founded the charity in 2005, after becoming increasingly concerned about the religion blind spot in the West. I have a regional newspaper background before becoming a Christian, when I started to travel to slums and conflict zones in Asia and Africa, seeing for myself what creates hope and what destroys it. I studied for a doctorate in religion at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University and have published articles and papers on Islam and Christianity in Britain. My major contributions have been research and writing on de-secularization, and leading a renaissance in religious literacy in the public discourse. I was Head of Media at the Church Mission Society and initiated the Break the Silence Campaign which helped end the war in Northern Uganda - because we harnessed a spiritual sensibility, the amazing spiritual capital of the mission, to a determined media and public affairs strategy. I saw for myself the unique assets of the world church in generating this capacity to address intractable injustice and conflict.
