Dr. Johnna Frierson serves as Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the Basic Sciences at the Duke University School of Medicine. She directs the IDEALS office (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Advancement, and Leadership in the Sciences) which expands and enhances the School of Medicine’s diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty and trainees working in biomedical research. Dr. Frierson partners with basic science units to strengthen retention, recruitment, and belonging of faculty and trainees, provide leadership for EDI training and programmatic interventions, and collaborate with EDI departmental representatives and leaders to expand and enrich community-building efforts and build a strategy and infrastructure to address culture and climate issues.
