Dr. John Krehlik, who has practiced medicine for more than 35 years, currently enjoys a reputation as southeast Alaska's only board-certified specialist in sleep medicine. Dr. Krehlik also remains the only such professional working in Juneau; his other primary office is in Anchorage. Dr. John Krehlik offers a number of services for people experiencing problems with sleeping, and he urges them to remember that certain disorders can lead to more serious complications, such as high blood pressure and heart disease. Many people come to see Dr. John Krehlik when they have obstructive sleep apnea, the most frequently occurring type of sleep apnea. For these individuals, the muscles of the throat or the tongue interfere with the airway at night; in addition to causing restless bouts of sleep, the disorder can lead to stroke, coronary artery disease, and other major problems. Dr. Krehlik reminds patients that those who have the greatest risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea include men, people who are overweight, and those who use alcohol heavily. Dr. John Krehlik also sees people for restless leg syndrome, which is experienced more often by individuals who do not get enough iron and women who are pregnant. He additionally provides treatment for narcolepsy, excessive snoring, insomnia, nightmares, and more. For added convenience, he offers at-home tests. Dr. John Krehlik obtained his medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He completed his internship and residency at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center and the University of Washington, respectively. In previous experience, he spent several years as a physician with both the Alaska Native Medical Service and the Veterans Administration. He also oversaw an internal medicine practice.
