The Bedfordshire SFC Network is a newly formed network of voluntary and community sector organisations with an interest in the governance of policing in the county. Come November the Police Authority will be replaced by an elected Police and Crime Commissioner. Our network will represent the VCS to the new man/woman and, hopefully, bid for some commissions.

LCP2, a registered charity, builds the capacity of the Community Police Engagement Groups in each of the 32 London Boroughs. As CEO I transformed the predecessor body into a registered charity and limited company, negotiated major increase in funding, built up the profile of LCP2 and community police engagement in London generally, and created a unique and comprehensive source of intelligence about the crime and community safety concerns of London’s communities. Public sector spending cuts have led to funding being withdrawn and LCP2 is now run entirely by volunteers with no paid staff.

Recruited by London Borough of Barnet to develop public consultation, used my management skills to build up a team of premier league social research professionals, my people skills to make public consultation one of the council’s core values and my networking skills to extend good consultation practice into other statutory and voluntary organisations locally. Highlight of this period: Co-founder and Vice Chair of the North London Chinese Association (NLCA). NLCA grew to 500+ members in less than three years, was commended by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, featured in Barnet Council’s Beacon Status citation, was short listed for two national community initiative awards, and inspired the creation of the Chinese in Britain All Party Parliamentary Group.2001: commissioned by the Improvement and Development Agency to write the e-learning module on Consultation for their new management training programme
