John was responsible for the curriculum design, implementation and evaluation of the successful postgraduate English Language Enhancement (PELE) initiative at Griffith University. This trial project was adopted for implementation in 2017. The project involved an embedded discipline-specific content-based adjunct tutorial model and is situated within the Griffith English Language Enhancement Strategy (GELES). The EAS adjunct tutorial courses are discipline-specific in that they are embedded in a core course subject of a postgraduate program. They are also content-based in that they draw on content from the subject course in which they are embedded.

• Contribute to the redevelopment of existing postgraduate workshops to online mode. Source/adapt and where necessary, develop learning resources especially in online modes.• Provide specialised learning skills services for postgraduate cohorts including Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) and Masters by coursework students.• Investigate the development of online learning communities with specific cohorts and the use of social media to extend reach and engagement. Trial and report on the progress of these activities. Incorporate mechanisms to track student progress.• Develop, trial, evaluate and share resources to enhance student learning (particularly web-based resources) as part of collaborative practice with colleagues.• Work with internal and external stakeholders such as ADG college staff, staff in the School of Graduate Research and the RMIT library to clarify needs and achieve improving process and practice to support postgraduate learning.

Duties: Providing expert assistance to DCAF (Geneva Centre for the Control of Armed Forces) staff with research and training projects through curriculum development and course design. This included: conducting needs assessment, developing goals and objectives, material development, conducting courses, carrying out evaluation, conducting training case-study research, conducting Training of Trainers workshops and developing training guidelines. Projects have included security policy development for strategic-level government, university and security forces staff, media trainings focused on the media’s role in security sector governance, editing of guidebooks and joint authorship of A Training Toolkit for the Media.
