Highlights include deciphering a new signalling mechanism across the outer membrane of E. coli and recording the first intact mass spectra of membrane proteins measured directly from lipid bilayers. -

OldhamResearch was based on studying protein-ligand complexes in the gas-phase using electrospray ionisation-ion mobility-mass spectrometry. I was particularly interested in highlighting similarities and differences in the behaviour of these complexes in a desolvated environment relative to the solvated state, an important consideration when working in this field. The research carried out during this time resulted in 4 peer-reviewed research articles. A variety of additional courses were undertaken during my time as a PhD student. These include academic courses focussed on my research area, such as molecular interactions, protein folding and biospectroscopy. -
Research ScientistAstrazeneca R&D Jun 2004 - Aug 2005My primary appointment was within the development pharmaceutics team, focused towards assessing the performance and reliability of the novel phase 3 asthma therapy product (now FDA approved). I gained valuable experience in pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) analysis including particle size distribution and total delivered dose experimentation. I also gained considerable experience in high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography.
