I am a physician with over 30 years of expertise in Legal and Forensic Medicine, deeply committed to using science to address critical social issues. Currently, I serve as a Professor at the University of Granada and Director of the Genetic Identification Laboratory (LABIGEN), where I have led groundbreaking international projects such as the FÉNIX, DNA-PROKIDS, and DNA-ProORGAN programs.In 2006, I co-founded the Pfizer – University of Granada – Andalusian Government Center for Genomics and Oncology Research (GENYO), a pioneering institution in genomics and personalized medicine. I directed GENYO from its establishment in 2008 until March 2024, overseeing transformative research that has shaped the field of medical genomics.My academic path includes post-doctoral research at the Universities of Heidelberg and Muenster, followed by advanced training at the FBI Academy (Quantico, Virginia) and the University of California, Berkeley, where I specialized in forensic genetics and its humanitarian applications.Driven by my dedication to human rights, I established DNA-PROKIDS in 2004, a global program that has helped identify and reunite over 3,500 missing children with their families across 16 countries. This initiative continues to fight against child trafficking and illegal adoptions.I have authored more than 150 scientific publications and secured over €12 million in research funding.
