About Judith Ainsworth

I have over 20 years' experience teaching business communications and business language studies in English and French in both academic and corporate environments. My expertise in management communication, particularly business writing, speaking and presenting, enables me to prepare graduates to become the skilled communicators organisations are seeking to employ.I am a strong proponent of Team-Based Learning, a learner-centred, instructor-led active learning method that fosters individual and group accountability as small groups work together in a classroom setting to solve problems. Funded by Ashesi University, I am currently involved in an interdisciplinary research project that seeks to determine whether Team-Based Learning or Project-Based Learning is more effective in helping students develop teamwork and leadership skills and achieve successful learning outcomes in Business Administration, Engineering and Humanities and Social Sciences courses.I have been a member of Zonta International (zonta.org) for over 15 years. I am currently serving as:• member of the Zonta International Excellence in Service and Advocacy Award Committee• President, Zonta Club of Kanata-Stittsville, Ontario, Canada

Current ResearchTeam-Based Learning and Project-Based Learning: a multidisciplinary investigation of experiences and outcomesPaper presented at the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning 22 Conference, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, 2-5 November 2022This paper reports preliminary results of a multi-disciplinary study at Ashesi University, Ghana to identify how Team-Based Learning (TBL) and Project-Based Learning (PBL) help students develop teamwork skills and achieve learning goals in business, engineering and humanities courses. The study evaluated the approaches in terms of engagement, accountability, satisfaction, teamwork and achievement. Data were collected through student reflective writing on teamwork and the learning experience, an online questionnaire, and teammate peer assessment of contribution to task accomplishment, leadership and team processes. The results provide evidence-based support for using TBL and PBL across the institution to foster student learning and success.
