Judy Schaechter, MD, MBA, is experienced in health policy, health care, public health, equity and medical education. She is a physician, change agent and business leader with a considerable record of achievement and innovation, including practice launches, school health programs, community initiatives, federal and state policy, DEI strategy, workforce continuum and non-profit leadership. Building on a career dedicated to the underserved, she is currently developing technology platforms to increase health care access abroad.Judy recently served as President and CEO of the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), the nation's credentialing and certifying organization for pediatric physicians, where she led strategic planning, advanced outreach, engagement and DEI efforts, enhanced partnerships to address mental health, workforce issues, and public trust, and fostered organizational attention to innovation and improvement.Prior to joining the ABP in 2021, Dr. Schaechter was a Health Policy Fellow with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Washington, DC, working with the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (Subcommittee Children and Families). Dr. Schaechter is Professor Emerita of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she served as Department Chair of Pediatrics and Chief-of-Service for Child Health at Jackson Memorial/Holtz Children's Hospital, a 244-bed specialty hospital with multiple outpatient sites. As UMiami faculty, she was a clinician, educator, researcher and child advocate, with appointments in both the departments of Pediatrics (primary) and Public Health Sciences (secondary). Prior to joining the UMiami School of Medicine, Dr. Schaechter began her career as a private practice doctor in an independent, two physician practice. Serving under two Florida governors, Dr. Schaechter was appointed to Florida's Children's Cabinet and Florida Healthy Kids, the state's children's' health insurance board, where she helped stabilize enrollment and enhanced access through simplification measures. She also served on Florida's Task Force on Obesity and Physical Fitness, The Children's Trust, The Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties and the board of The American Heart Association of South Florida.Judy was awarded a Certificate in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School, an executive MBA from the University of Miami, a Medical Doctorate from Stanford and a BA in religious studies and ethics from Brown University.
