I am a licensed psychologist and certified forensic consultant with over 30 years experience in the mental health, addictions, and criminal justice fields. I founded Eastern Shore Psychological Services, a multi-disciplinary behavioral health agency and have built it up to its current network of 5 sites and 125 employees in 18 years. I specialize in the assessment and treatment of individuals who are at risk for violence and those who are emotionally disturbed, behaviorally disordered, victimized, delinquent, and/or suffering from attachment disorders. Frequently I have appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN, Discovery ID, Fox News, and CBC in Canada.I have written two books on youth violence. The first, How Children Become Violent (Acanthus Publishing 2006) was awarded the 2007 IPPY (Independent Book Publishers Award) bronze medal in the Psychology/Mental Health category. The second book, Youth Violence: Theory, Prevention, and Intervention (Springer Publishing 2011) is written for the professional community. My CARE-2 Assessment: Chronic Violent Behavior and Treatment Needs (Acanthus Publishing, 2007–2012), has received national recognition and is widely utilized by social workers, teachers, court personnel, and medical professionals. It is designed to identify youth who are at risk for violent behavior. It is the only assessment of its kind that provides a comprehensive intervention plan to prevent future aggressive outbursts. In 2013, I received a grant from the Maryland Industrial Partnerships program to test the accuracy of the CARE-2 Assessment, which I am currently working on in partnership with Salisbury University and the Department of Juvenile Services. This research has validated the predictive accuracy of the CARE-2 http://care2systems.com .I am also the author of the AVRRT™, for risk of dangerousness among those that are psychotic, delusional, or autistic.
